SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Project Professional 2002 or Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003, you may experience the following symptoms:
  • You receive the following error message:

The command is attempting to use a webpage from the site gbui://blank.htm/. You have not identified this site as a trusted site in Internet Explorer.

Microsoft Project cannot display pages from untrusted sites, so we cannot execute this command. If you want to use pages from the site gbui://blank.htm/ in Microsoft Project, you need to make this site a trusted site in Internet Explorer. You should make a site trusted only if you are sure of the site's identity, and you trust the site will not attempt to damage your computer or your data. Note that when you trust a site in Internet Explorer, you are trusting the entire domain to which that site belongs. For example, if you trust the site http://www.microsoft.com/widgets, you are trusting the entire http://www.microsoft.com domain.
  • You receive the following error message:
The command is attempting to use a Web page from the site gbui://mainpage.htm/. You have not identified this site as a trusted site in Internet Explorer. Microsoft Project cannot display pages from untrusted sites, so we cannot execute this command. If you want to use pages from the site gbui://mainpage.htm/ in Microsoft Project, you need to make this site a trusted site in Internet Explorer.
The error messages do not have a Cancel button. When you click OK on either one of the error messages, the error message reappears on the screen. You have to use Windows Task Manager to end the Winproj.exe process to remove the error message from the screen.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:

Method 1: Repair Microsoft Internet Explorer

To repair Microsoft Internet Explorer, use the method that applies to your operating system and your version of Internet Explorer.

For Microsoft Windows XP

Windows XP includes Microsoft Internet Explorer 6. You cannot use Windows XP with an earlier version of Internet Explorer because Internet Explorer 6 is a core component of the Windows XP operating system.

To repair Internet Explorer 6 in Windows XP, download Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (SP1). If your computer is already running Internet Explorer 6 SP1, download the file again, and then reinstall the software to repair the original installation.

For more information about how to reinstall or repair Internet Explorer 6 in Windows XP, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
318378  (http://kbalertz.com/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=318378/ ) How to reinstall or repair Internet Explorer in Windows XP

For Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, or Microsoft Windows 2000 with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. On the Change or Remove Programs tab, click Microsoft Internet Explorer.
  4. Click Change/Remove, click Repair Internet Explorer, and then click OK.
  5. When you are prompted to detect and repair problems with Internet Explorer, click Yes.
  6. If you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes to restart the computer.

Method 2: Add the GBUIDisplayToggle registry key value in the registry

To add the GBUIDisplayToggle registry key value in the registry, follow these steps.Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit , and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following subkey as appropriate.
    • For Project 2002:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\MS Project\Options\Interface
    • For Project 2003:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\MS Project\Options\Interface
Note If the Interface registry subkey is not listed under the Options subkey, you must create the Interface subkey. To create the Interface subkey, right-click the Options subkey, point to New, click Key, and then type Interface.
  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  4. Type GBUIDisplayToggle, and then press ENTER.
  5. Right-click GBUIDisplayToggle, and then click Modify.
  6. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, make sure that the Value data box contains a NULL value (“0”), and then click OK.
  7. Close Registry Editor.
Notes
  • The Project Guide feature that helps you through the project management process will be disabled if you add the GBUIDisplayToggle registry key value and set a NULL value ("0").

For more information about the Project Guide feature, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
  • You may experience the issue that is described in the "Symptoms" section if you re-enable the Display Project Guide option by clicking Options on the Tools menu, and then selecting the Display Project Guide check box on the Interface tab.
