Custom templates that were created in Producer 2002 are not available in Producer 2003

SYMPTOMS

Custom templates that were created in Microsoft Producer for PowerPoint 2002 may not be available in the Presentation Templates area in Microsoft Producer for Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the custom templates for Producer 2003 and the custom templates for Producer 2002 are located in different folders. However, any custom templates that you created for Producer 2002 will work with Producer 2003.

Producer 2002 custom template folders are located in the following folder:
%programfiles%\Microsoft Producer\1033\Templates
Producer 2003 custom template folders are located in the following folder:
%programfiles%\Microsoft Producer 2\1033\Templates

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, copy the folders that contain your custom templates for Producer 2002 to the Producer 2003 Templates folder. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type %programfiles%\Microsoft Producer\1033\Templates in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Click a custom template folder.
  3. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
  4. Click Start, click Run, type %programfiles%\Microsoft Producer 2\1033\Templates in the Open box, and then click OK.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
  6. Repeat steps 1 through 5 for each custom template folder.

Additionally, you can play Producer 2003 presentations by using Microsoft Internet Explorer on a Macintosh-based computer and by using Netscape Navigator on a Microsoft Windows-based computer. For these browsers to work correctly, custom templates that were created in Producer 2002 must be updated in Producer 2003.

To play Producer 2003 presentations by using Internet Explorer on a Macintosh-based computer, you must use Internet Explorer 5.2.2 or a later version. Local playback of Producer 2003 presentations is not supported and must be hosted on a Web site.

To play Producer 2003 presentations by using Netscape Navigator on a Windows-based computer, you must use Netscape Navigator 7.0 or a later version. Local playback of Producer 2003 presentations is not supported and must be hosted on a Web site.

For more information about custom templates in Producer 2003, follow these steps:
  1. On the Help menu, click Microsoft Producer Help.
  2. Click the Search tab.
  3. Type customizing templates in the Type in the word(s) to search for box, and then click List Topics.
