You cannot log on to your computer by using the Fingerprint Reader

SYMPTOMS

When you use your keyboard to wake your computer from standby, you cannot use the Microsoft Fingerprint Reader to scan a fingerprint so that you can log on to your computer. Additionally, when you try to scan your fingerprint, the light on the Fingerprint Reader blinks quickly but the DigitalPersona Password Manager software appears to stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This issue may occur if an Enhanced Host Controller Interface (EHCI) host controller is installed on your computer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:
  • Restart your computer.
  • Unplug the Fingerprint Reader or unplug the keyboard that has a fingerprint reader from the universal serial bus (USB) port on your computer, and then plug the device back in to a USB port.

MORE INFORMATION

To prevent this issue, configure your computer so that the keyboard will not wake your computer from standby. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type Sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
  3. Expand Keyboards, right-click your USB keyboard, and then click Properties.
  4. On the Power Management tab, click to clear the Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby check box, and then click OK.
