A user who logs on to a Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Web site by using anonymous access cannot view a document that is checked out by another user
A user logs on to a Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Web site by using anonymous access. When the user browses to a document library and then clicks a document that is checked out by another user, the document does not open. Instead, a
Connect to ServerName dialog box is displayed on the screen, and the user is prompted to enter a user name and password.
This behavior occurs because a user who logs on to the Web site by using anonymous access cannot open or view a document in a document library if that document is already checked out by another user.
To work around this behavior, do one or more of the following, depending on your situation:
- Assign a Windows user account to the users who have anonymous access. The users can log on to the Web site by using the Windows user account.
- Instruct users not to check out documents.
- Instruct users to only check out a document when they have to and then to check in the document immediately after they finish working with it.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
