PRJ: How Fiscal Dates Are Shown on a Timescaled View
This article was previously published under Q86287
On This Page
SUMMARY
In the versions of Microsoft Project listed above, when the fiscal year is
set to start in a month other than January that is also before the current
month, the current date may appear incorrect. When a fiscal year is
specified, the current date becomes a fiscal date, which results in the
date jumping ahead by one year. This is the correct year based on the
information supplied to Microsoft Project and standard fiscal year
calculations.
MORE INFORMATION
Example 1
- Change the current date to 6/29/97.
Microsoft Project 98/2000: On the Project menu, click Project Information.
Microsoft Project 4.1: On the File menu, click Project Info.
Microsoft Project 4.0: On the File menu, click Summary Info.
- On the Format menu, click Timescale. Under Major Scale, in the Units
box, select Years. Under Minor Scale, in the Units box, select Quarters.
Click OK.
- On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Calendar tab. Under
"Calendar Options for <Project Name>", in the "Fiscal year starts in"
list, click February. Click OK.
The Current Date vertical bar in the Gantt chart now shows the year 1998.
Example 2
If the "Fiscal year starts in" option is set to a month that is past the
current date, the current date on the Gantt bar remains the same, and the
future months are incremented by one year starting at the month
specified.
- Change the current date to 6/29/97.
Microsoft Project 98/2000: On the Project menu, click Project Information.
Microsoft Project 4.0: On the File menu, click Summary Info.
Microsoft Project 4.1: On the File menu, click Project Info.
Click OK.
The time scale in the Gantt chart shows the current date is still in the
current year; however, the next month (July in this example) is in 1998.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
