Task name in a Microsoft Project 2002 project is not updated in the "Link the document to the selected tasks" Web page in Microsoft Project Web Access
On This Page
SYMPTOMS
When you publish a project to Microsoft Project Server 2002, and then you click
Link the document to tasks on the View and Upload Documents page in Microsoft Project Web Access to link a document to a task, the task in the project is linked as expected. However, if you change the name of the task in Microsoft Project Professional 2002, and then link a document to the task, the name of the task is not updated on the
Link the document to selected tasks Web page the next time that you log on to Microsoft Project Web Access.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if you change the name of the task in Gantt Chart view in Microsoft Project Professional 2002.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use one of the following methods, depending on your situation.
Republish the assignment in Microsoft Project Professional after you change the name of the task
After you change the name of the task in Microsoft Project Professional, use the
Republish Assignments command to republish the project, and then log on to Microsoft Project Web Access to link a document to the task.
- Start Microsoft Project Professional, and then open your project.
- On the View menu, click Gantt Chart.
- In the Gantt Chart view, type the new name that you want for the task.
- On the Collaborate menu, point to Publish, and then click Republish Assignments.
- Click OK.
- Log on to Microsoft Project Web Access, and then link the document that you want to the task.
Use the Task Information dialog box in Microsoft Project Professional to change the name of the task
Instead of changing the name of the task in Gantt Chart view, use the
Task Information dialog box in Microsoft Project Professional to change the name of the task. Follow these steps to change the name of the task by using the
Task Information dialog box:
- Start Microsoft Project Professional, and then open your project.
- On the View menu, click Gantt Chart.
- Right-click the task whose name you want to change, and then click Task Information.
- Click the General tab.
- Type the new name of the task in the Name box, and then click OK.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
