SYMPTOMS

You may not be able to use Microsoft Windows Messenger 5.0 on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer to transfer files to another Windows Messenger client. You may also experience problems with other features of Windows Messenger 5.0, such as the Whiteboard feature or the Application Sharing feature.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the Windows XP-based computer has multiple network adapter bindings. For example, this problem occurs if the Windows XP-based computer has more than one physical network adapter. This problem may also occur if you install a program that configures virtual network adapters in Windows XP. For example, this problem may occur if you use VMWare on your Windows XP-based computer.

This problem occurs because Windows Messenger 5.0 initiates the file transfer through an IP address that is bound to a network adapter. This network adapter is not the Windows XP network adapter that initiated the Windows Messenger session.
