You receive an error message when you try to edit Organization Chart 2.0 objects that are created in earlier versions of Office
SYMPTOMS
If you create stand-alone Microsoft Organization Chart 2.0
(*.opx) files in versions of Microsoft Office that are earlier than Microsoft
Office 2003, you cannot insert these Organization Chart files into Microsoft
Office PowerPoint 2003. If you try to edit an Organization Chart object that
was created in an earlier version of Office, you may receive the following
error message:
The Microsoft Organizational Chart server
application can't be found. Contact your system administrator to install this
server application.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because Office 2003 includes a new version
of Organization Chart. The new version of Organization Chart is built into the
diagramming feature in Office 2003, and not a separate tool like Organization
Chart 2.0. The new version of Organization Chart cannot edit existing
Organization Chart 2.0 objects or import stand-alone .opx files that are
created in earlier versions of Organization Chart.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, download and install the earlier
version of the Organization Chart 2.0 utility. After the Microsoft Organization
Chart 2.0 is installed, you can use the utility to import stand-alone .opx
files by using the
Insert Object
command.

MORE INFORMATION
In earlier versions of Office, you can insert an
organization chart into PowerPoint 2003, and save an organization chart as a
stand-alone .opx file. However, in Office 2003 you cannot open any .opx files
that are created by the Organization Chart 2.0, or insert the files as
objects.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
