How to view the installation log files and to create verbose installation log files in Project 2003 and in Project 2002

SUMMARY

When you install Microsoft Office Project 2003 or Microsoft Project 2002, the Setup program automatically generates installation log files that contain detailed installation information. This article describes how to view these log files and how to create more detailed, or verbose, log files.

View the installation log files for Project 2003 and Project 2002

Use a text editor, such as Notepad, to view the installation log files.

To locate these log files, click Start, click Run, type %temp% in the Open box, and then click OK.

The Microsoft Windows temporary folder opens. This folder contains the following files.

For Project 2003

  • Microsoft Office Project Standard 2003 Setup (0001)_Task(0001).txt
  • Microsoft Office Project Standard 2003 Setup (0001)_Task(0001).txt [MJ2]
  • Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003 Setup (0001).txt
  • Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003 Setup (0001)_Task(0001).txt
  • Microsoft Office (0001).txt
  • Microsoft Office (0001)_Task(0001).txt

For Project 2002

  • Microsoft Project Standard 2002 Setup (0001).txt
  • Microsoft Project Standard 2002 Setup (0001)_Task.txt(0001)
  • Microsoft Project Professional 2002 Setup (0001).txt
  • Microsoft Project Professional 2002 Setup (0001)_Task(0001).txt
  • Microsoft Project Server 2002 Setup (0001).txt

Create verbose log files for Project Server 2003 and Project 2003

To create verbose log files during the installation of Project Server 2003:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type the following text, and then click OK:
    path\prjsvr\setupsvr.exe /Lv* “%temp%\MyServerSetupLog.txt
Setup creates the following log files.
  • temp\ MyServerSetupLog.txt
  • temp\ MyServerSetupLog _Task(001).txt
Note In these paths, temp is the Windows temporary folder.

To create verbose log files during the installation of Project 2003:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type the following text, and then click OK:
    path\setup.exe /Lv* “%temp%\ MyProjectSetupLog.txt
Setup creates the following log files:
  • temp\ MyProjectSetupLog.txt
  • temp\MyProjectSetupLog _Task(001).txt
Note In these paths, temp is the Windows temporary folder.

Create verbose log files for Project 2002

To create verbose log files during the installation of Project 2002, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type the following text, and then click OK:
    path \setup.exe /Lv*! c:\verboselog.txt
Setup creates the following log files:
  • C:\Verboselog.txt
  • C:\Verboselog_Task(0001).txt
