MSBBN: Cannot connect a Microsoft Wireless Network Adapter to a Linksys wireless router

SYMPTOMS

When you try to connect your Microsoft Broadband Networking Wireless Notebook Adapter MN-520 or your Broadband Networking Wireless USB Adapter MN-510 to a Linksys router, you cannot connect.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Fragmentation Threshold setting for your wireless network adapter is outside the range of your Linksys router.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, change the Fragmentation Threshold setting for your wireless network adapter to 2304. To do this, follow these steps in Microsoft Windows XP:
  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network Connections.
  2. Right-click your wireless network connection, and then click Properties.
  3. On the General tab, click Configure under your wireless network adapter.
  4. Click the Advanced tab, click Fragmentation Threshold in the Property box, and then type 2304 in the Value box.
  5. Click OK.
To resolve this issue, follow these steps in Windows Vista:
  1. Click Start

    , type network and sharing center in the Start Search box, and then click Network and Sharing Center in the Programs list.
  2. Click Manage network connections.
  3. Right-click the wireless network connection, and then click Properties.

    User Access Control permission
    If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
  4. On the General tab, click Configure under your wireless network adapter.
  5. Click the Advanced tab, click Fragmentation Threshold in the Property box, and then type 2304 in the Value box.
  6. Click OK.
