SUMMARY
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 or Microsoft Visual Studio .NET and the Microsoft .NET Framework may not support
the side-by-side installation or the side-by-side running of different language
versions. The
side-by-side installation and the side-by-side running of different language
versions of Visual Studio 2005, Visual Studio .NET, or the .NET Framework may lead to unexpected
results. Microsoft Product Support Services does not provide support or
hotfixes for these unexpected
results. This article describes side-by-side configurations that Visual Studio 2005 or Visual Studio .NET and the .NET Framework do and do not support.

Visual Studio 2005
Visual Studio 2005 supports the following side-by-side configurations:
- One language version of Visual Studio 2005 and the same language version of Visual Studio .NET 2003 or of Visual Studio .NET 2002
- One language version of Visual Studio 2005 and a different language version of Visual Studio 2005 (must be the matching edition with the same feature set installed)
Visual Studio 2005 does not support the following configurations:
- One language version of Visual Studio 2005 and a different language version of Visual
Studio .NET 2003 or of Visual Studio .NET 2002
Visual Studio .NET
Visual Studio .NET supports the following side-by-side configurations:
- One language version of Visual Studio .NET 2003 and the same language version of Visual Studio .NET 2002
- One language version of Visual Studio .NET 2003 and a different language version of Visual Studio .NET 2003
- One language version of Visual Studio .NET 2002 and a different language version of Visual Studio .NET 2002
Visual Studio .NET does not support the following configurations:
- One language version of Visual Studio .NET 2003 and a different language version of Visual
Studio .NET 2002
- One language version of Visual Studio .NET 2002 and a different language version of Visual
Studio .NET 2003
Microsoft .NET Framework
The .NET Framework supports the following side-by-side configurations:
- Any language version of the .NET Framework 1.1, any language version of the .NET Framework 2.0, and any language version of the .NET Framework 1.0, including the same language version
- Any language version of the .NET Framework 1.0, any language version of the .NET Framework 2.0, and any language version of the .NET Framework 1.1, including the same language version
The .NET Framework does not support the following side-by-side configurations:
- One language version of the .NET Framework 1.1 and any language version of the .NET
Framework 1.1
- One language version of the .NET Framework 1.0 and any language version of the .NET
Framework 1.0
- One language version of the .NET Framework 2.0 and any language version of the .NET
Framework 2.0
The .NET Framework Redistributable Package
The .NET Framework Redistributable Package supports the following side-by-side configurations:
- Any language version of the .NET Framework 1.0 Redistributable Package, any language version of the .NET Framework 2.0 Redistributable Package, and any language version of the .NET Framework 1.1 Redistributable Package, including the same language version
- Any language version of the .NET Framework 1.1 Redistributable Package, any language version of the .NET Framework 2.0 Redistributable Package, and any language version of the .NET Framework 1.0 Redistributable Package, including the same language version
