Application Center 2000 VIP Address Assignment May Not Work on Windows Server 2003
SYMPTOMS
After an Application Center 2000 (AC2000) cluster creation or a member addition in a cluster with multiple virtual IP addresses (VIPs), some static IP addresses may not be assigned. If a cluster member is removed, the VIPs may not be removed from the cluster member. If a script or program uses Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) to remove or add static IP addresses on the cluster controller, the addition or removal may not be correctly replicated to the cluster members. In all cases, the address assignment may appear to be correct in the Network Connections user interface, but IPConfig reports the actual address settings and the cluster may not function correctly.
CAUSE
This problem may occur when the WMI
EnableStatic method of the
Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration class does not add or remove a static IP address without reporting a failure.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, disable and reenable the network interface card, and then retry the cluster operation that was not successful.
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Application Center 2000 Service Pack 2
Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
