When you try to open a file that was previously protected
with a password and then saved to a new location, you may receive the following
error message:
The operation could not be completed
because the source file contains invalid project data or the total number of
rows exceeds the limit of 1,048,000 rows in a project.
This symptom
may occur if the following conditions exist:
- You save a file that is password protected.
- You save the file again by using a different name, but do
not password protect the file.
- You save a password-protected document again after you
remove or clear the old password.
Service Pack Information
This problem is corrected in Project 2002 Service Pack
1.

Hotfix Information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

The English version of this fix
should have the following file attributes or later. The dates and times for
these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the
file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between
UTC and local time, use the "Time Zone" tab in the Date and Time tool in
Control Panel.

To work around this problem:
- Open the project file.
- On the File menu, click Save
As.
- On the Tools menu, click General
Options.
- Remove the password.
- Save the file to a new location.
- Open the new project file.
- On the File menu, click Save
As.
- On the Tools menu, click General
Options.
If you cannot open the file, there is no way to
recover the file except from backup. - Type the password you want to use to protect the file in
the new location.
Microsoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in Project
2002 Service Pack 1.
