While you apply an Extensible Stylesheet Language
Transformations (XSLT) style sheet to transform an XML document, an
<xsl:message> element exception may occur. After a random number of successful
transformations, when you try to handle such an exception, you may receive an
access violation error message that is similar to the following:
Unhandled exception at 0x69b2381a in
Transform.exe: 0xC0000005:
Access violation reading location
0x00000020.
You receive this error message only when the following conditions
are true:
- You use the transform method of an XSLT processor to apply the XSLT style
sheets.
- You set the terminate attribute of the <xsl:message> element to yes.
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in
the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in
coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is
converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use
the
Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is
a problem in Microsoft XML 4.0 SP1.
This problem was corrected in Microsoft XML 4.0 SP2.
