Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next .NET Framework 1.0 service pack that contains this hotfix.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services telephone numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

This hotfix addresses the problem by letting you encrypt and then store this information in the registry.

After you apply this hotfix, you must obtain the following tool for this hotfix to work correctly:
329290  (http://kbalertz.com/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=329290/ ) How to use the ASP.NET utility to encrypt credentials and session state connection strings
To store your credentials in the registry, follow the steps in Q329290. After you finish the steps, edit your Config file so that it reads the information from the registry. To do this, use the following sample code:
<processModel>
    enable="true"
    userName="registry:HKLM\Software\SomeKey,somevalue"
    password="registry:HKLM\Software\SomeKey,somevalue"
    ...
</processModel>
