PRJ2000: Error Message in Outlook When You Open a Team Assign Message or Team Status Message

This article was previously published under Q317469

On This Page

SYMPTOMS

When you open a Team Assign message or a Team Status message in Microsoft Outlook, you receive the following error message:
Microsoft Project An Error occurred during initialization. One or more OLE controls failed during initialization. Reinstall the workgroup features, and then try again.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when the Msflxgrd.ocx file is missing, damaged, or not registered.

WORKAROUND

To resolve this issue, use the following methods in the order in which they are presented.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

Method 1: Reregister Msflxgrd.ocx

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type cmd, and then press ENTER.
  3. Do one of the following:

If you are using a Microsoft Windows NT-based computer, a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, or a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer, type cd\Winnt\System32, and then press ENTER.

If you are using a Microsoft Windows 98-based computer or a Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition-based computer, type cd\Windows\System, and then press ENTER.
  4. Unregister Msflxgrd.ocx. To do so, type regsvr32.exe /u msflxgrd.ocx, and then press ENTER.
  5. Reregister Msflxgrd.ocx. To do so, type regsvr32.exe msflxgrd.ocx, and then press ENTER.
  6. Type exit, and then press ENTER to close the command prompt.
NOTE: If you cannot unregister and reregister Msflxgrd.ocx, proceed to the next method.

Method 2: Reinstall Workgroup Messaging

  1. Click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
  2. In the Search for files or folders named box, type msflxgrd.ocx.
  3. In the Look In box, select your system partition, and then click Search Now.

Your system partition is the partition that contains the Winnt folder or the Windows folder.
  4. If Msflxgrd.ocx is located in the Winnt\System32 folder or the Windows\System folder, rename it Msflxgrd.old. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Right-click Msflxgrd.ocx, and then click Rename on the shortcut menu.
    2. Type msflxgrd.old, and then press ENTER.
  5. Insert your Microsoft Project 2000 CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  6. Start Windows Explorer, and then open the following folder on the Microsoft Project 2000 CD:
    WGSETUP
  7. Double-click WGSetup.exe to reinstall Workgroup Messaging.

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
