SYMPTOMS
When you start one of the Office v. X for Mac programs listed at the beginning of this article, you may receive the following error message:
This installation of Microsoft Office X exceeds the number of installations permitted by the license agreement. User name is already using this installation of Microsoft Office X. The program will now quit.
When you click
OK, the program quits.
CAUSE
This problem may occur on a network if another computer is running an Office v. X for Mac program that was installed with the same CD key as the program on your computer.
RESOLUTION
Install Microsoft Office v. X 10.1.2 Update
This issue has been fixed in the Microsoft Office v. X for Mac Security Update (10.1.6). To obtain the Microsoft Office v. X for Mac Security Update (10.1.6), visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Reinstall Office X with Different CD Keys
To resolve this problem, remove the Microsoft Office v. X for Mac program from all computers on which it was installed with the same CD key. Then, reinstall the Microsoft Office v. X for Mac programs by using separate CD keys for each computer on which you want them installed.
Temporary Workaround
To temporarily workaround this problem, close the program that is running on the other computer, and then start the program on your computer.
