PRB: Adding Servers to the COM+ Routing List via the MMC May Fail
This article was previously published under Q310831
SYMPTOMS
An attempt to add a COM+ server to the routing list on an Application Center cluster through the Application Center Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in fails.
CAUSE
When you are using the user interface that is provided by the Application Center MMC snap-in to add a server to the COM+ routing list, the snap-in attempts to validate the server that is being added to the list by creating a Server Message Block (SMB) connection. If this is not possible, such as if there is a firewall that is blocking the SMB ports, then the connection will not succeed and the server will not be added to the routing list.
RESOLUTION
You can use the Application Center command line to add servers to the COM+ routing list without performing any validation of the server that is being added. You can use the
AC CLB command along with the appropriate switches to achieve this.
You can work around this limitation temporarily by allowing SMB connections to occur while the routing list is being modified through the MMC.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
