FP2000: Cannot View Images on a Web Page Created in FrontPage

This article was previously published under Q310759

On This Page

SYMPTOMS

When you browse a Web page that was created in Microsoft FrontPage, an image on the page may be displayed as a red X.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the image file cannot be found in the designated image source location, or if the image file is corrupted. When you use an FTP program to publish your Web to the server, the image may not be successfully transferred, or it may not be placed in the correct location on the server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one or both of the following methods, as necessary, in the order presented.

Check the Local Copy

  1. Start FrontPage, and then open your local copy of the Web.
  2. On the File menu, click Preview in Browser, and then click Preview.
  3. Open the page that contains the missing image.
  4. Right-click the image, and then click Properties.
  5. If the Size box shows the file size as 0, replace the empty file with a new image file, and then republish the Web.
  6. If the file name contains a number sign (#), refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
308947  (http://kbalertz.com/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=308947/EN-US/ ) FP2000: You Cannot View an Image in a FrontPage Web in Normal View

Check the Image on the Web Site

  1. Browse to the Web site in question, and then open the page that contains the missing image.
  2. Right-click the image, and then click Properties.
  3. If the Size box shows the file size as 0, replace the empty file with a new image file.
  4. If the file is not empty, check the text in the Address: (URL) category, and then use one of the following methods, as appropriate:
    • If the address is a path to location on your computer's hard disk, start FrontPage, open the local Web, import the image into your Web, replace the current image with the imported image, and then publish the Web.

      -or-
    • If the address is a path to a location on the Web site, and the image file does not reside there, move the image to the correct location.

      -or-
    • If the address is a path to a location on the Web site, and the image file is there, open the image. If the image cannot be opened, the file may be corrupted. Delete and replace the damaged file, and then republish your Web to the server.

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back. Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what didn't.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry edits), please consult a professional.

Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
