SYMPTOMS

If you install Application Center 2000 on a Windows 2000 Server-based computer with Windows 2000 Service Pack (SP) 2 installed, the installation may fail, and the following error message may appear in an Installer Information dialog box:
Internal Error 2744, register_logsetup.exe,
<install path>\register_logsetup.exe, -events The
program experienced an internal error. If this condition
persists, restart the application or contact your
support personnel.

CAUSE

Application Center 2000 Setup attempts to install Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.6 and fails if it needs to replace any MDAC files that are in use. Windows 2000 with SP2 installs MDAC 2.5, so if any applications are running that use MDAC and lock files that must be upgraded to version 2.6, Application Center 2000 installation fails with the error noted in the "Symptoms" section.

RESOLUTION

If you restart the server that has the failed installation, the in-use files should be replaced and you should be able to install Application Center 2000 without encountering this failure.

You can prevent this problem from occurring on Windows 2000 SP2-based systems by running sqlredis.exe /Q and rebooting before you install Application Center 2000. Sqlredis.exe is on the Application Center 2000 installation media in the \X86\Binn folder.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

When you install Application Center 2000 on a Windows 2000 SP1-based server, you must first install the post-SP1 hotfixes which, in turn, run Sqlredis.exe and restart the server, so you will not encounter this failure on Windows 2000 SP1.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Install Windows 2000 and SP2.
  2. Install and run an application that uses MDAC (for example, Microsoft BizTalk Server.)
  3. Install Application Center 2000.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Application Center 2000 Standard Edition
