PRB: Must Re-apply Application Center 2000 SP1 If You Add the Logging Feature to a Server That Has SP1 Installed
This article was previously published under Q307310
On This Page
SYMPTOMS
If you install Application Center 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on a server that does not have logging installed, and then you add logging later, the Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) is installed without the SP1 fixes.
CAUSE
The Application Center 2000 installer is not aware of the SP1 installation and installs the RTM version of MSDE.
RESOLUTION
Re-install Application Center 2000 SP1 after you add the logging feature.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
MORE INFORMATION
Steps to Reproduce the Behavior
To reproduce the problem, follow these steps:
- Install Application Center 2000; click to clear the selection for the Event and Performance Logging feature.
- Apply the Application Center 2000 SP1 patch.
- Run Application Center 2000 Setup again; click to select the Event and Performance Logging feature. At this point, you have the RTM version of MSDE installed on your server.
- Verify the version number and the modified date of the executable file, which is located at Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$MSAC\Binn\Sqlservr.exe. The RTM version of MSDE has the following file attributes for Sqlservr.exe:
version 2000.80.194.0
modified 8/6/2000
size 7,442,493 bytes
The SP1 version of MSDE has the following file attributes for Sqlservr.exe:version 2000.80.384.0
modified 5/23/2001
