PRJ2000: Resource Data in Custom Fields Is Lost When Opening from Database

This article was previously published under Q300981

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 2000 SR-1, when you open a project that contains data in the custom fields of a resource view, the data may be missing.

Fields that may be affected by this issue include Text 1-30, Cost 1-10, and the Group field.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if all of the following conditions are true:
  • The project shares resources with a resource pool.
  • Both the resource pool and the sharer file are stored in a Microsoft SQL Server database.
  • You enter data in one or more custom fields in a resource view.
  • You open the project and select the Do not open other files option.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, open the resource pool by using the Open resource pool to see assignments across sharer files option.

NOTE: By default, the resource pool opens as read-only so that you can work in the project without affecting any write operations that other people are performing.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, submit a request to Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.

Note If additional issues occur or if any troubleshooting is required, you might have to create a separate service request. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for this specific hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Customer Service and Support telephone numbers or to create a separate service request, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support (http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support)
Note The "Hotfix download available" form displays the languages for which the hotfix is available. If you do not see your language, it is because a hotfix is not available for that language. The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:
Date Time Version Size File name
   ----------------------------------------------------------
   05-JUL-2001 20:29 3,032,576 Msproject.msp

After the hotfix is installed, the following files will have the listed attributes or later:
Date Time Version Size File name
   ---------------------------------------------------------
   05-JUL-2001 20:29 9.0.2001.703 6,160,438 Winproj.exe
   05-JUL-2001 20:29 9.0.2001.703 782,389 Pj9od9.dll

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Project 2000, Service Release 1 (SR-1)
Keywords:
kbautohotfix kbhotfixserver kbqfe kbbug kbfix KB300981
