Office programs that have a Voodoo3 driver installed stop responding (hang) and you recieve error messages

SYMPTOMS
When you are working in one of the Microsoft Office
products listed in the "Applies to" section, you may receive the following
error message:
This program has performed an illegal
operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program
vendor.
When you click
Details, you may receive an error message that is similar to one of the following:
EXCEL caused a general protection fault in module
3Dfx16v3.drv at memory address
POWERPNT caused a general protection fault
in module 3Dfx16v3.drv at memory address
MSPUB caused a general protection fault in
module 3Dfx16v3.drv at memory address
WINWORD caused a general protection fault
in module 3Dfx16v3.drv at memory address
Visio caused a general protection fault in
module 3Dfx16v3.drv at memory address.
Note For Microsoft Visio, the basis for this error message can occur in module
3dfx2.dll, in module 3dfxGlide2.dll, or in module 3dfxGlide.dll.
When you try to start Microsoft Office Personal Portfolio,
you may receive the following error message:
WKPPE
caused a general protection fault in module 3DFX16V3.DRV
CAUSE
This problem may occur in any of the programs listed in the "Applies to" section if you are using a Voodoo3 video card with an
outdated driver. This error has been reported when you are using the following models
of Voodoo3 video adapters:
- Voodoo3 2000
- Voodoo3 3000
- Voodoo3 3500 TV
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, download and install version 1.02.18
or later of the video driver for your video adapter. Updated video drivers are
available from the following Voodoo Web site:

STATUS
This problem occurs when you use Microsoft Office and a
