SYMPTOMS

When you click Detect and Repair on the Help menu, or you click Repair Office in the Microsoft Office XP Maintenance Mode dialog box, you receive an error message similar to the following:
Out of disk space -- Volume: 'C'; required 268375 KB; available space: 173160 KB. If rollback is disabled, enough space is available. Click 'Cancel' to quit, 'Retry' to check available disk space again, or 'Ignore' to continue without rollback.

CAUSE

This error message appears if the following conditions are true:
  • You attempt to repair your Office installation.

    -and-

  • You have enough free space on your hard disk to perform the repair operation.

    -and-

  • You do not have enough free disk space to enable the automatic recovery of your installation if the repair process is cancelled.
Automatic recovery, or rollback enables Office Setup to restore your previous configuration if the repair process is cancelled. The amount of free disk space required to automatically recover your previous Office configuration will vary, based on the features that you have already installed on your hard disk.
