Clip2002: Clip Organizer Cannot Read Design Gallery CIL Files
This article was previously published under Q297224
SYMPTOMS
When you are prompted to select a program to open a downloaded Clip Gallery Package file (CIL) from the Microsoft Office Online Clip Art Web site and you select Clip Organizer, a new instance of Clip Organizer runs. It behaves as though it is reading the file, but nothing happens.
CAUSE
Clip Gallery Package files were designed to work with Clip Gallery versions 3, 4, and 5. Clip Organizer 2002 does not read CIL files. Clip Organizer 2002 reads a new format: Media Package Files (MPF).
RESOLUTION
Download files from the Microsoft Office Online Clip Art Web site in the MPF format. You can set the Microsoft Office Online Clip Art Web site to default to the MPF format. To do this, follow these steps:
- Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
- Find the file that you want to download, and then add it to the Basket.
- Click Download item.
- Click Download Now, and then download the file.
Note If you use Office XP with Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, click
import to Clip Organizer 2002 or a later version when you download a clip.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
