OFFXP: Error Message: Setup Has Detected that You Have One or More of the Following Features Installed

SYMPTOMS

When you run the Microsoft Office XP Setup program, you receive the following message:

Setup has detected that you have one or more of the following features installed: cc:Mail, Microsoft Mail, Net Folders, Microsoft Fax, or WinFax Starter Edition (SE)

These features are no longer supported in Outlook. If you continue the upgrade, you will no longer be able to use them. Would you like to continue the upgrade?
If you click Yes, Setup continues. If you click No, the Begin Installation dialog box appears for you to customize your Office installation options.

CAUSE

The message described in the "Symptoms" section of this article appears if all of the following conditions are true:
  • You performed a Complete installation of Office 2000.
  • You never ran Outlook 2000.
  • You performed a Custom installation of Office XP and selected the following options:
    • In the Choose which applications for setup to install dialog box, you cleared the Microsoft Outlook check box.
    • In the Remove previous versions of Office applications dialog box, you selected the Keep all previous versions option.

WORKAROUND

When the message described in the "Symptoms" section of this article appears, click Yes. You can ignore this message.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
