STS: Office Program Stops Responding When You Connect to SharePoint Team Web Site
This article was previously published under Q289314
SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to use Secure Sockets Layer
(SSL) to connect to a SharePoint team Web site, the Office program that you are using stops responding.
For example, in any Office XP program or Microsoft Internet Explorer, when you attempt to open a location similar to the following
https://sharepoint/myserver
the program may stop responding.
CAUSE
This may occur if the server that is running SharePoint Team Services does not have SSL enabled.
The program stops responding, because the server is not expecting SSL, and the server waits for your program to send more information.
WORKAROUND
Try to connect without using SSL. For example, instead of using a location similar to the following
https://sharepoint/myserver
use a location similar to the following:
http://sharepoint/myserver
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft SharePoint Team Services
- Microsoft Access 2002 Standard Edition
- Microsoft Excel 2002 Standard Edition
- Microsoft FrontPage 2002 Standard Edition
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 Standard Edition
- Microsoft Publisher 2002 Standard Edition
- Microsoft Word 2002 Standard Edition
Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
