This article was previously published under Q288429

SUMMARY

Event ID: 4148
Source: Application Center
Description: Member failed to come online
Event Type: Error

The member %ServerName% has failed to come online.

Meaning: The member could not be brought online.

Effect: If this is a cluster member, the member will not serve content. The rest of the cluster is not affected by this problem. If this is the cluster controller, other problems might also be experienced.

Possible Causes and Solutions

Load balancing suspended: Network load balancing has been suspended on the member locally.

Server not available: Either the member is not turned on or has been renamed.

Web service stopped: The Web service on the member is not operating. Restart or start the Web service and then try the task again.

Also investigate:
  • Windows Event Log for failure
  • Network failure
  • Hardware failure, such as the network adapter
Other Solutions (listed in order of preference):
  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Use the Support Online link in the Events view.
  3. Contact Microsoft Product Support Services:
    http://support.microsoft.com/directory/ (http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=http%3a%2f%2fsupport.microsoft.com%2fdirectory%2f)

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back. Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what didn't.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry edits), please consult a professional.

Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
