PPT2002: Can't Set Web Site as Location in Which to Save Online Broadcast Files
This article was previously published under Q285482
SYMPTOMS
When you attempt specify a Web location (HTTP or FTP
protocol) for the
Save Broadcast Files in setting in the
Broadcast Settings dialog box while you are setting up either a live or recorded
Microsoft PowerPoint Online Broadcast, you receive one of the following error
messages:
The path or file name for
http://servername/sharename is invalid. Please check
that the path and file name are correct.
-or-
'http://servername/sharename' is not a
shared directory. A shared directory should be in the form of
'\\servername\sharename'.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because PowerPoint can't save online
broadcast files to an FTP or HTTP location. The online broadcast files can be
saved locally or to a file server on the network.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, specify a shared folder using the
Universal Naming Convention (UNC), or
\\
servername\sharename.
STATUS
Microsoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
APPLIES TO

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
