This article was previously published under Q285478
SYMPTOMS
When you click
Record in the
Record Presentation Broadcast dialog box, the following error message appears in the
Status section of the
Broadcast Presentation message box:
PowerPoint could not connect
to the Windows Media
Encoder.
Press Retry to try again.
If
you click the
Details button, an error message similar to the following appears:
The Windows Media Encoder returned the following error
message to PowerPoint:
drive:\My Documents\My Broadcasts\user\.... No video capture devices are installed. Please contact your
system administrator for help regarding this Windows Media Encoder error.
CAUSE
PowerPoint by default assumes that your computer has both
audio and video capturing capabilities. If you do not have a video capture
device installed and configured in the computer, you receive the error message
listed in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, change the

Audio only. To do
this, follow these steps:
- Start PowerPoint.
- On the Slide Show menu, point to Online Broadcast, and then click Settings.
- On the Presenter tab, under Audio/Video, click Audio only, then click OK.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
