OFFXP: You Cannot Select "Run from CD" During Installation
This article was previously published under Q284463
On This Page
SYMPTOMS
When you install Microsoft Office XP and you attempt to select a custom installation option, neither
Run from CD nor
Run all from CD appears as an installation option for any Office program or any feature in the Office feature tree.
This behavior is different from that of Microsoft Office 2000.
CAUSE
By design, the
Run from CD installation option that is available in earlier versions of Office is not available in Office XP. You cannot run Office XP from the CD-ROM because the layout of the Office installation CD-ROM is changed and the executable files are not directly accessible from the CD-ROM.
MORE INFORMATION

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
