Missing address, road, highway or off ramp - How to submit feedback to Microsoft about the map data in Autoroute, in MapPoint, or in Streets and Trips

This article was previously published under Q281826

SUMMARY

Sometimes you may not find an address, route, road, highway or off ramp, or the information that you find may be inaccurate in the products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. Additionally, you may be looking for a feature or a component in the product that is currently unavailable.

Microsoft obtains the map data that is used in our products from an independent third-party geographical data provider, NAVTEQ. The data is about 6 months old. We take the data and hard code it to the product. This means that mapping information in the current version cannot be dynamically changed or updated. As you know, a lot of changes can occur within 6 months, as new roads, streets, and homes get built. NAVTEQ updates their data on regular basis.

If you are looking for a new feature in the product, use the feedback form that is available in the product itself. Or, send a direct e-mail to the developers of the product. For details about how to do this, see the "More information" section.

Although revisions cannot be made to the data in the current versions of these products, your feedback is appreciated. It will help improve later versions of these products. Microsoft values all customer feedback. We want to hear from you about how we can make our products better.

If you cannot find a location, road, highway, and so on, you may not be typing the address correctly in the product, or you may be using abbreviations or characters that are not recognized by the product. Try to locate the same address (location) using Live Search (http://local.live.com). Live Search may reformat your address in the form that Streets & Trips or MapPoint can understand. Then, you can copy that address into the product.

If you find any errors in the map or in the map data that is included with programs that are listed in the "Applies to" section, you can always submit feedback to Microsoft. Note that the latest version of the product may have the location or feature you are looking for already incorporated. Some new products are offered as trial versions. You can download or install the product to see if the problem has been rectified in a new version. You can download a trial version from one of the following Microsoft Web sites:
http://www.microsoft.com/streets (http://www.microsoft.com/streets)
http://www.microsoft.com/mappoint (http://www.microsoft.com/mappoint)
Additionally, because Microsoft obtains its map data from the NAVTEQ, you may want to check if NAVTEQ’s data has the information that you are looking for by searching http://mapreporter.navteq.com (http://mapreporter.navteq.com) . If you can find the information, it means that the future version of the product may include the updated map.

How to submit feedback

To submit feedback to NAVTEQ, visit the following NAVTEQ Web site, and then complete the online form:
http://mapreporter.navteq.com/dur-web-external/secured/submitDur.do (http://mapreporter.navteq.com/dur-web-external/secured/submitDur.do)
Reporting map errors and omissions directly to NAVTEQ is the quickest way to get the correction in the product. If NAVTEQ has the update, it can make its way into future versions of Streets & Trips or MapPoint. To learn more about how NAVTEQ uses customer’s feedback, visit the following NAVTEQ Web site:
http://mapreporter.navteq.com/dur-web-external/secured/support.do (http://mapreporter.navteq.com/dur-web-external/secured/support.do)

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back. Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what didn't.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry edits), please consult a professional.

Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
