You cannot preview sound in Effect Options in PowerPoint
This article was previously published under Q278580
SYMPTOMS
When you use the Effect Options to apply a sound to an animation, you cannot preview the sound. The speaker icon in this dialog box only allows you to adjust the volume.
RESOLUTION
If you want to preview a sound, use the Slide Show Preview or the
Play button. To apply a sound to a custom animation and then preview the sound, follow these steps:
- Click the Custom Animation task pane.
- In the Custom Animation task pane, double-click the animation that you want to apply a sound to. Or, in the Custom Animation task pane, click the arrow to the right of the animation to which you want to apply sound, and then click Effect Options on the menu that appears.
- In the Sound list, click the sound that you want to use, and then click OK.
- If the AutoPreview check box at the bottom of the Custom Animation task pane is selected, the sound will play automatically when you preview the slide animations. To preview the slide animations, click Slide Show at the bottom of the Custom Animation task pane.
- If the AutoPreview check box is not selected, click the Play button at the bottom of the Custom Animation task pane to preview the sound.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
