PPT97: Setup Can't Install the PowerPoint Templates

SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to install one of the PowerPoint updates from Tools on the Web, you may receive the following MS-DOS-based error message:
Setup can't install the PowerPoint templates. Please check that PowerPoint
is installed correctly. Press ENTER to exit Setup.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when you attempt to install the extra templates for Microsoft PowerPoint. You may receive the error message with any of the following downloaded files:
- Ppcommpk.exe
- Ppfinapk.exe
- Ppmanapk.exe
- Ppoperpk.exe
- Ppsalepk.exe
- Pptraipk.exe
- Pptimepk.exe
WORKAROUND
All of the template files available for download from Tools on the Web are also located on the Microsoft Office 97 CD-ROM in the ValuPack. Use the following method to install the templates from the Microsoft Office 97 CD-ROM:
- Insert the Microsoft Office 97 CD-ROM in the drive.
- Double-click My Computer.
- Double-click the Office 97 CD-ROM icon.
- Double-click the ValuPack folder.
- Double-click the Template folder.
- Double-click the Present folder.
- Double-click the Setup.ppa file.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with the installation program for the template packs.
