Plus! 98: Wallpaper Bitmap Is Not Displayed on Desktop or in Desktop Themes Dialog Box

This article was previously published under Q220866

SYMPTOMS

If you select the Fashion or World Traveler desktop theme included in Microsoft Plus! 98, the wallpaper bitmap may not be displayed on your desktop or in the Desktop Themes dialog box.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Jpegim32.flt file is missing or damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the System File Checker utility to extract a copy of the Jpegim32.flt file from your Microsoft Windows 98 CD-ROM to your hard disk. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Microsoft Windows 98 CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key as you insert the CD-ROM to prevent the CD-ROM from starting automatically.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type the following line, and then click OK:
    sfc.exe
  4. Click "Extract one file from installation disk."
  5. In the "Specify the system file you would like to restore" box, type jpegim32.flt and then click Start.
  6. In the Restore From box, click the CD-ROM drive that contains the Windows 98 CD-ROM.
  7. In the Save File In box, type the following line, and then click OK
    <drive>:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Grphflt
where <drive> is the drive letter of the hard disk on which Windows is installed.
