SYMPTOMS
When you start any of the programs listed at the beginning
of this article, you may experience any of the following symptoms:
- The program may not start correctly.
- The program may not be displayed correctly on the
screen.
- The program may stop responding (hang), or perform
poorly.
- The program may quit and you may be returned to the Windows
desktop.
- Sounds in the program may not be played
correctly.
- Your game controller may not function correctly in the
game.
CAUSE
This issue may occur if you reinstall Microsoft Windows 98
after you install DirectX 6.1.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, reinstall DirectX 6.1.
MORE INFORMATION
This issue can occur because DirectX Setup does not copy
the Dx6migr.inf file to your hard disk. If you reinstall Windows 98, several
DirectX files are overwritten by DirectX 5.2 files that are included with
Windows 98.
To determine if you have to reinstall DirectX 6.1, use
the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (Dxdiag.exe) to check the DirectX file versions
installed on your computer.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
