Article ID: 2162461 - Last Review: October 14, 2010 - Revision: 2.0 The IPP printer continues to print after you try to cancel or delete the print job on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, or Windows 7 Consider the following scenario: - You create an Internet Printer Protocol (IPP) printer on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7.
- You try to cancel or delete a print job that is being printed by using the IPP printer.
In this scenario, the IPP printer continues to print. This issue occurs because the IPP print monitor sends a cancel or delete request that does not include the current user credential information. However, an IPP specification states that the current user credential information must be included in the cancel or delete request. For Windows Server 2008 R2 and for Windows 7To resolve this issue, install Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on an affected computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2. Or, install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on an affected computer that is running Windows 7. For Windows Server 2008 and for Windows VistaTo resolve this issue, install this hotfix on an affected computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista. Hotfix information A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix. If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. - Service Pack 1 is integrated into the release version of Windows Server 2008. Therefore, RTM milestone files apply only to Windows Vista. RTM milestone files have a 6.0.0000.xxxxxx version number.
- The MANIFEST files (.manifest) and the MUM files (.mum) that are installed for each environment are listed separately in the "Additional file information for Windows Server 2008 and for Windows Vista" section. MUM files and MANIFEST files, and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are extremely important to maintaining the state of the updated component. The security catalog files, for which the attributes are not listed, are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This hotfix addresses the issue in which a print job that is already sent to the printer cannot be canceled. This hotfix does not address the issue in which a print job cannot be canceled when the print job is still being sent to the printer over the network. After you install this hotfix, you may still have to try to cancel the print job several times because it may be unsuccessful until the print job finishes network transport.
