Plus! 98: Cannot Use Compressed Folders After Installing WinZip

SYMPTOMS

When you install or uninstall Nico Mak Computing's WinZip program, you may no longer be able to use compressed folders in Plus! 98.

In addition, when you start WinZip, you may receive the following error message:
Access violations.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install compressed folders in Plus! 98 after you install or uninstall WinZip. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Microsoft Plus! 98 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key when you insert the Plus! 98 CD-ROM to prevent the Plus! 98 CD-ROM from starting automatically.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click Microsoft Plus! 98, and then click Add/Remove.
  4. Click Add/Remove, and then click Next. If the Compressed Folders check box is cleared, skip to step 9. If the Compressed Folders check box is selected, continue to the next step.
  5. Click the Compressed Folders check box to clear it, and then click Next.
  6. Click Next, click Finish, and then click OK.
  7. Click Microsoft Plus! 98, and then click Add/Remove.
  8. Click Add/Remove, and then click Next.
  9. Click the Compressed Folders check box to select it, and then click Next.
  10. Click Next, click Finish, and then click OK.
  11. Click OK, and then close Control Panel.
