Removing Plus! 98 Deletes Desktop Themes and Maintenance Wizard
This article was previously published under Q187905
SYMPTOMS
When you uninstall Plus! 98, the Desktop Themes tool in Control Panel
and the Maintenance wizard may no longer work.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you uninstall Plus! 98 more than once.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, extract the following files from their cabinet
files on the original Microsoft Windows 98 CD-ROM to the folders listed
in the table below.
File Cabinet File Folder
--------------------------------------------------
Themes.cpl Win98_51.CAB C:\Windows\System
Themes.exe Win98_60.CAB C:\Program Files\Plus!

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Plus! 98,
version 1.0.
MORE INFORMATION
The first time you uninstall Plus! 98, the Themes.exe (Desktop Themes),
Themes.cpl (Desktop Themes tool in Control Panel), and Tuneup.exe
(Maintenance wizard) files are deleted but are restored from backup files,
which are then deleted. If you uninstall Plus! 98 a second time, when
these three files are deleted there are no backup files from which to
restore them.
