FP98: Netscape Does Not Display Page, System Resources Diminish

This article was previously published under Q184865

SYMPTOMS

When you use Netscape Navigator version 4 or later to view a FrontPage Web page, you may experience the following symptoms:
  • Your page appears blank.

    -and-
  • Processor usage increases to 100 percent.

    -and-
  • Virtual memory usage increases to 100 percent.

    -and-
  • Netscape Navigator stops responding (hangs).

    -and-
  • An error appears indicating that your system is running low on resources (Windows NT only).

    -or-
  • System performance begins to degrade.

CAUSE

Netscape Navigatior 4.0 and later do not support an apostrophe in a hyperlink that contains an inline style.

This behavior occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • You are viewing the page from Netscape Navigator version 4.0 or later.

    -and-
  • The hyperlink reference (HREF attribute of the anchor tag) contains an apostrophe.

    -and-
  • The anchor (<A>) tag contains a STYLE attribute (inline style).

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods:
  • Use an external or embedded cascading style sheet, rather than an inline style sheet.

For additional information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
180827  (http://kbalertz.com/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=180827/EN-US/ ) FP98: How to Create Cascading Style Sheets in FrontPage 98
  • Remove the apostrophe from the hyperlink reference.

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back. Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what didn't.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry edits), please consult a professional.

Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
