XL97: Exchange Folder Tool Doesn't Appear After Dragging

This article was previously published under Q173609

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 97, if you drag the Exchange Folder tool from the Commands tab of the Customize dialog box and drop the tool onto an existing toolbar, the tool may not appear until you quit and restart Microsoft Excel 97.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you drag the Exchange Folder tool onto a toolbar, such as the Standard toolbar.

NOTE: If you drag the Exchange Folder tool onto a menu, such as the File menu, the tool appears correctly.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel 97. This problem no longer occurs in Microsoft Excel 2000.

MORE INFORMATION

In Microsoft Excel 97, you can use the Customize dialog box to make changes to toolbars and menu bars. To display the dialog box, either:

  • On the View menu, point to Toolbars, and click Customize. -or-

  • On the Tools menu, click Customize.
The Commands tab of the Customize dialog box contains all of the tools and menu items included in Microsoft Excel 97. You can use the Commands tab to customize menus and toolbars by dragging tools from the Commands list and dropping them onto menus or toolbars.

The Exchange Folder tool typically appears on the File menu, under the Send To submenu. You can use the Exchange Folder tool to send the active workbook in Microsoft Excel 97 to a folder in Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Outlook.

Because of the design of this tool, it may not immediately appear when you drag it from the Customize dialog box to a toolbar in Microsoft Excel 97.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Excel 97 Standard Edition
