XL97: Error Sending Workbook If Mail Program Is Offline
This article was previously published under Q169354
In Microsoft Excel 97, if you point to Send To on the File menu, and then
click Mail Recipient, you may receive the following error messages:
Microsoft Exchange
<no error message -- dialog box is empty except for exclamation point
icon>
-and/or-
Microsoft Excel
General mail failure. Quit Microsoft Excel, restart the mail system,
and try again.
This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:
- Your computer is configured to work offline and use dial-up networking
to connect to a Microsoft Exchange Server.
-and-
- You have not created an offline folder file.
To resolve this problem, set up an offline folder file. To do this, use the
following steps:
- On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Mail And Fax control panel icon.
- In the list of Services, click Microsoft Exchange Server. Then, click
Properties.
- In the Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
Then, click Offline Folder File Settings.
- In the File box, type a path and file name for the new offline folder
file. Then, click OK. If you are prompted to create the new offline
folder file, click Yes.
- Click OK. Then, click OK again. Close the Control Panel.
You can send workbooks from Microsoft Excel 97 to your mail program even
when it is offline.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem occurs only if you do not set up an offline folder file on
your computer. This is a necessary step if you are running Microsoft
Exchange or Microsoft Outlook 97 and you want to run mail offline.
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Excel 97 Standard Edition
